Sour Ale Aged in Mead & Tequila Barrels w/ Roasted Julian Apples
We have long since been huge fans of the incredible beers coming out of Cellador Ales, most importantly the boundary challenging & uncompromised enthusiasm. We talked over many months what a collaboration could look like and the most essential trait would that it would have to be strange in some regard. Many months ago, Kevin Osbourne jumped in his Lamborghini and made the trip to San Diego for a short few hours of blending within our barrel-aged sour ale cellar. What came out was a marriage of tequila & mead barrel aged sour ales aged on hand-roasted Julian apples. A glowing orange hue with frothy foam, the nose is met with smoke, earthy spirit character, agave richness, and bright fruitiness. Moderately acidic, with complex layers of crab apple, charred sugars, ripe strawberry, and warm spices. This is such a fun beer. The name is weird too.
