For this massive Imperial Stout, we combined the recipes from our coveted ‘Beer Geek Vanilla Shake’ and an MKSD favorite ‘Traeblod’ to create something very special. Brewed solely with the first-runnings from each recipe, and then boiled for over 8 hours, we developed an incredibly complex caramelization and rich character; this is truly a special treat.
Aged in very rare Thomas H. Handy Sazerac Rye Barrels for over a year, LifeBlod Reserve Chocolate Raspberry is unlike most beers we make at Mikkeller SD. The barrel character has notes of oak, vanilla, and salted caramel with a slight amount of heat from the cask strength barrel. After aging, Reserve was dosed with a healthy dose of Ecuadorian cacao nibs and chocolate cultivated on the Galapagos Islands giving it a rich and smooth dark chocolate roast. To balance everything out, a hefty dose of raspberries were used to add an intense fruity sweetness on both the aroma and palate. A thick and syrupy body and lighter carbonation really bring the drinking experience together. Cheers!
